Spring Ephemeral Hike

Participants will search for “ephemerals”—short-lived wildflowers like Trout Lily and Dutchman’s Breeches that bloom only briefly before the forest canopy closes. It is a lesson in woodland ecology and the biological timing of the spring cycle. Led by local naturalists, the hike provides a rigorous look at Iowa’s native biodiversity and the environmental factors that govern these fleeting botanical treasures.
